Jennifer Mansour is now a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) in Piano through the Music Teachers National Association! The requirements for national certification include a high level of knowledge in piano pedagogy (the art of teaching piano), music theory and music history/literature, as well as performance skills. This is demonstrated through college classwork or extensive projects and by passing a national exam that tests not only musical knowledge, but also one’s ability to teach, run a business, and overall professionalism in continuing education and studio/community relationships. To maintain certification, one must continue to submit evidence of some of these characteristics on a yearly basis.
National certification is not required in the realm of independent piano teaching, but its rigorous standards lets you know that a certified teacher is highly qualified.
